Philosophy

The word "ahimsa" is a sanskrit word for the Buddhist philosophy of doing no harm to any living creature. At Ahimsa Creations, this principle guides everything we do and it also serves as a mission. All of our products are 100% vegan, using no animal ingredients whatsoever. This means no wool, leather, cashmere, fur, and other materials that bring harm to our animal counterparts. Additionally, we used recycled materials and "found objects" to complete some of our designs. We also use Fair Trade ingredients whenever possible.

Our Story Adam and Elizabeth

Elizabeth and Adam Frick are the co-founders of Ahimsa Creations - Elizabeth makes everything you see on the website by hand.

Elizabeth moved to Chicago in 1996, where she studied Sociology at DePaul University and obtained a master´s degree in Elementary Education at National-Louis University. She taught fifth grade in Chicago´s inner city schools for two years, and became fed up with the bureaucracy and inadequacy of the public school system. Following fate´s lead, Elizabeth began working at Tree House Animal Foundation, a cageless no-kill cat shelter on Chicago´s north side, where she stayed for two years.

Elizabeth met her husband Adam in 1997, became engaged in 1998 and they were married in July of 1999. Adam was studying music and sound recording at DePaul University at the same time as Elizabeth. He worked for Big Idea Productions (creators of Veggie Tales) for six years before branching off on his own to start his own business, Chicago Film Sound. Now Adam works independently, recording, editing and perfecting sound for film, commercials and produces and records music these days.

After 10 years in Chicago, the couple resides in St. Louis with their six cats Bella, Auggie, Gus, Lew, Bastille, and the newest, Sage. Married since July 3, 1999, Adam and Elizabeth currently have no children, but are expecting to bring their daughter home from South Korea by the end of summer of 2008!

Ahimsa Creations was born out of Elizabeth´s deep passions for crafts, using her hands to create, and promoting the welfare and proper treatment of animals (click here or here to learn more about our philosophy and what the word ahimsa means). Adam has been instrumental in making this dream a reality.
