We had a great time traveling with the monkeys to the show in Nashville, but you never know what those monkeys are going to do next! Enjoy the pictures from our travel saga!
Though it was messy and we think a few minor injuries occurred, the monkeys thought it was pretty hilarious to have a giant pile-on before getting ready to go, just to get themselves jazzed up for the trip. We really need to keep them separate to prevent such shenanigans, but we couldn´t afford a 52-passenger van for this trip!
The monkeys get ready to go. Shame of all shames, they were transported in the most glamorous of ways, trash bags. Jack was so insulted, he tried to escape. But we were totally onto him.
Elizabeth and Adam (the monkey) enjoy Taco Bell´s piece de resistance, the cheesy fiesta potatoes. We know, we know! They´re TOTALLY not vegan, but when on a road trip, one must make certain concessions. And as the saying goes, when in Shiloh, do as the Shilohians do. The extra-scandalous thing about this Taco Bell is that it shared the same kitchen as KFC. Who knew there was a Colonel´s Buffet?! We almost puked from the chicken smell - turns out several monkeys puked from Adam´s (the husband) driving, but that´s a story for another day.
Monkey Adam shows his distaste for the Colonel and what he does to poor defenseless chickens. We had to remove him from the Taco Bell KFC (or Kentucky Fried Tacos, as we called it) quickly before things got ugly.
We were ALL very displeased by the high gas prices, but Eunice was downright outraged! (See her pouting at the very bottom of the sign).
Eunice takes the wheel while Adam looks on. She´s a very responsible driver, but she does have a rebellious streak in her. She must be watched! She managed to get the old Saturn up to about 120mph before Adam had to put his foot down - on the brakes.
Naptime! After our gorge-fest at Taco Bell, the monkeys groaned, clutched their bellies and snoozed in the sun. They claim they don´t snore, but we know better.
Sweet little Bob just about wet his pants over the excitement of seeing Ms. Dolly Parton. The southern belle was kind enough to take time from her busy Dollywood schedule to take a photo with Bob. And don´t worry, he WAS a perfect gentleman, despite his proximity to. . . well. . . you know.
Garrison was appalled at the hotel décor at our friendly Hampton Inn, and spent most of the evening grousing about it to the other monkeys (and us). We don´t think he slept all night he was so worked up over this particular piece of "art."
While we were out for dinner and drinks, the monkeys spent the evening plotting against us. They managed to take over the entire bed and Elizabeth was left wondering where she would sleep. Let´s just say it wasn´t pretty. . .
Adam and Jack stayed up long into the night, giggling and anticipating the big event.
While most of the monkeys were appalled by the biscuit-shaped egg patties and biscuit-shaped sausage patties, Minerva enjoyed her Hampton-Inn-provided breakfast of Corn Flakes and Lemon Lift tea. She´s so easy to please. . .
Ethan helps us calculate Nashville´s sales tax, a whopping 9.25%! We were so embarrassed to have to charge it that we made the monkeys do it. It somehow softened the blow for shoppers, though you wouldn´t believe the number of times we had to remind Ethan where the "equal" sign was.
Eunice made quick friends with Leslie, a friend of Rebecca Massey´s of Tangled Woods, our craft-show-booth-neighbor, and ended up going home with them! Happy trails, Eunice! Unfortunately that meant Adam had to drive the whole way home without Eunice along to share the drive.
Ethan waves good-bye to Nashville.
Ethan got a little kooky in the final hours of our drive. We quickly squelched his efforts at plotting mutiny. Frankly, we just wanted to get home in one piece.
Elizabeth and Minerva are exhausted after a long day of craft showing and riding in the car. We still had 3 hours to go and needed some serious caffeine!
Minerva enjoyed a Cherry Coke Zero. She was a bit too perky after this little treat. |
